DESCRIPTION: EPW - H. Kemshead, Manchester, lever fusee with center-seconds, 54mm, 18K gold original OF case bearing Chester hallmarks for 1821-2, incuse "T H & Co" marking for casemaker Thomas Helsby & Co, white enamel dial, slide under dial at 5 is presumably for hacking function but is not currently operating, KWKS, lever escapement, gilt mvt with hinged gilt signed dust-cap, s#524 to dust-cap. Gross weight of assembled watch 90.5 dwt (140.8 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, hacking mechanism is not functioning, overhaul needed if hacking function is desired, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some small marks to plate surface around winding arbor escutcheon, few fine scratches elsewhere, some ultra-fine scratch striations likely from a light past wiping; dial with fractures between 5 and 6, scattered hls elsewhere; excellent gold hour and minute hands, sweep-seconds-hand is missing a large portion of its tip; case with "V730918" crudely scribed within its rear, case shows medium wear, ding to lower edge of front bezel causing bezel to seat with a small bit of gap to band around its lower portion, reduced engine turning detail with full loss as shoulder; bow pivots freely and with significant play within larger pendant sockets; good domed glass crystal.
